Brisbane 150 Years - PSE

Brisbane 150 Years - PSE

The 150th anniversary of Brisbane will be celebrated on 6 September 2009. On this day in 1859 the town was declared a municipality, after the Governor of New South Wales was successfully petitioned by Brisbane residents. Later that year the first council was established and Brisbane was declared the capital of the newly formed colony of Queensland. From its origins as a penal settlement, Brisbane has grown to a vibrant multicultural city of cutting-edge technologies and world-class sporting and cultural facilities. Celebrations will be held on 6 September at Brisbane landmarks: the City Botanic Gardens, the Goodwill Bridge and Southbank Parklands.
