The designer of last year's Christmas Island Christmas issue was commissioned again to create a new design to add to this light-hearted Christmas series.
Rob has once again turned his "brush" to the endemic fauna of the Indian Ocean island, with the Christmas Island Frigatebird (Fregata andrewsi) the target of his comic style. Wearing Santa's hat, the bird stands proudly with his stash of gifts, accompanied by a small coterie of marine friends. The male frigatebird is known for the skin pouch on its throat, which becomes inflated as part of its showy courtship ritual. The grand pouch on Rob's frigatebird signals not so much the season of love but the season of giving, resembling a festive Christmas bauble.
