From time to time it becomes necessary to reprint certain stamps. Specialist collectors delight in identifying each printing, however, with modern technologies it is becoming increasingly difficult to recognise one printing from another. To aid those collectors interested in this side of the hobby, Australia Post now identifies each reprinting by adding a koala or kangaroo device in the selvedge.
Original printings have no koala identification. The first reprint has one koala, the second reprint has two koalas, and so on. If a fifth reprint is required, the identifying icon is in the form of a kangaroo. Please note that modern reprints lose much of their philatelic significance if separated from the identifying selvedge.
