Cricket was played on Shell Green formerly a cotton field on the seaward slope of a ridge inland from the Anzac landing area. It was also the scene of a cricket match played by Australians as an attempt to distract the Turks from the imminent departure of allied troops in late December 1915. Shells were passing overhead all the time the game was in progress.
Cricket games were also played at Suvla Plain in 1915 and two score sheets of a cricket game played between the 1 Australian Light Horse Brigade and 3 Australian Light Horse Brigade, Anzac Cove, 15 October 1915 are held by the Australian War Memorial, Canberra.
